There are important vocabularies that we use every day in our homes. In today’s lesson, I would like us to learn together to know some of the important vocabularies we use in the kitchen. We will learn in Swahili and then in the next lesson we will learn through audio.

1.Tokota-cooking by boiling in liquids eg water.

2.Kaanga-Fry

3.Banika-To cook by placing the food next to a heat source eg roasting maize,meat…etc.

4Kanza-To warm food.

5.Oka-To bake as in bread.

6.Jokofu/jirafu-Fridge

7.Tanuri-Oven

8.Sufuria-Bowl like metallic cooking pot

9.Chungu-Earthen pot.

10.Birika-kettle

11.kikombe-Cup

12.Sahani-plate

13.Sinia-a big flat plate

14.kisu.Knife

15.Uma-fork(do not confuse with umma,which translates to-public).

16.Mbuzi-grater(also,goat).

17.Chupa-Bottle(also to jump).

18.Jiko-Any cooking equipment. 

19.Viungo-spices(also joints).

20.Tamu-Sweet/delicious

21.Chungu-Bitter(also pot or ants).

22.Chachu-Acidic

23.Moto-hot(also fire)

24.Baridi-cold

25.Vuguvugu-Lukewarm.
