Words for Family Relationships And how they can be used in sentences:
Babu = Grandpa
Bibi = Grandma
Mjukuu = Grandchild
Baba = Father/Daddy
Mama = Mother/Mom
Mtoto = Child
Son = Mwana
Binti = Daughter
Kaka = Brother
Dada = Sister
Mjomba = Uncle
Shangazi = Aunt
Binamu = Cousin
Mpwa = Nephew
Shemeji = In-law ( generally apply to male inlaws )
Wifi = In-law ( this is only between female In-laws )
In Sentences..
Note:
1. the nouns for relationships starting with m-, goes with “wa-” to show possesion condition for example :
a.mtoto wangu = My child
b.mjomba wangu = My uncle
v. Mpwa wangu = My nephew
2. Nouns which doesn’t start with “m-” goes with ya- to show possesion condition for example :
Babu yangu = My grand Pa
Kaka yangu = My brother
Shemeji yangu = My in-law
But also note this “ya-” go even to nouns for relationships start with “Ma-“, eg Mama ; in sentences you say:
Mama yangu instead of “Mama wangu”
a. Mama yangu = My mother

1.Mama yangu ni mkulima.
2 . Babu yangu ni mvuvi.
3. Binti yangu ni mhandisi wa tarakirishi
4. Mjomba wangu ni mtu mkarimu.
5. Bibi yangu ni mkali sana.

Mkulima = Farmer
Mhandisi = Engineer
Tarakirishi = Computer
Mtu = person/human
Mkarimu = Generous
Mkali = Strict person who has a zero-tolerance for a bad behavior.
