Shikamoo: swahili greeting

Shikamoo literally means ” I touch your feet “. This greeting is used to show respect to an elder in the society, when a young person meet an elder in the society. 

The CONTEXT of Using It.

1) It’s social greeting used when a young one meet an elder at social level.

2) A young person is a one who is supposed to start a conversation by greeting an elder

RESPONSES;

An elder reply by saying ” Marahaba” which literary means ” You have my blessings. ” That’s one and only response to Shikamoo.

Note: Culturally, a young person has to greet an elder when they meet before everything else, especially when they meet in an informal setting. That’s considered as Respect.
