5.U HALI GANI?

U hali gani ? simply means ‘ how is your condition/state ? ‘. In essence, It’s equivalent to ‘ how are you ? ‘. In swahili “hali” means condition.

CONTEXT of using.

✓ This greeting is compatible to be used anywhere, when people communicate in social essence.

RESPONSES

Positive Responses.                         

U hali gani ? >  Niko vizuri./ I’m good

U hali gani ? >  Niko poa. / I’m cool.

U hali gani ? >  Salama. / Peace.

Negative Responses.

U hali gani > Siko sawa / I’m not okay.

U hali gani > Siko vizuri / I’m not good.

CONVERSATION EXAMPLE.

JAMES : U hali gani Bahati ? / How are you Bahati ?

BAHATI : Niko vizuri James, wewe je ? / I am fine James, how about you ?

JAMES : Mimi pia niko vizuri Bahati, siku nyingi hatujaonana, za siku ?

I too am good Bahati, many days we have not seen each other, how were you ?
